8 energy myths. True or false?

Generators, neutral, night consumption, savings… Test what you know. Every answer is explained simply.

  1. An oversized generator is the safer choice. False

An oversized generator runs at low load. It burns more fuel per kWh and clogs up. Measuring the real peak lets you pick the right size and cut fuel and CO₂. Power peak explained (FR)

  2. A site's peak is often much lower than the sum of its feeders' peaks. True

Feeders don't all peak at the same moment: that's diversity. Measuring it avoids oversizing the contract, the generator or the transformer. Diversity explained (FR)

  3. To measure a switchboard, you have to cut the power. False

The VISU Box uses split-core current clamps placed around the cables. No shutdown, no change to the installation. Set-up takes less than an hour. Discover the VISU Box

  4. A good power factor guarantees good power quality. False

Power factor says nothing about harmonics, phase unbalance or voltage drops. EN 50160 power quality analysis measures them all. Harmonics explained (FR)

  5. Neutral current can exceed phase current. True

With electronic loads (LEDs, IT, drives), some harmonics add up in the neutral. It can then run hotter than the phases, unnoticed. The neutral explained (FR)

  6. At night, when the site is closed, consumption is negligible. False

Lighting, ventilation, servers, standby devices: baseload is often heavy. The night curve is one of the first sources of savings. Baseload explained (FR)

  7. A few weeks of measurement are enough to decide on an investment. True

A campaign of a few weeks captures the site's cycles: days, nights, weekends, processes. Enough to size, prioritise and put a figure on payback. See our offers

  8. Energy bills are enough to prove savings. False

A bill mixes weather, activity and tariffs. To prove savings (energy certificates, performance contracts), you must measure before and after, using a recognised method such as IPMVP. Measurement and verification (M&V)
